MATRIX – “DYNA-FLYERS” revolutionizes the volume production of CDE modified with sodium methylate
THE CUSTOMER BACKGROUND
A specialist in provide manufacture specialty in oleochemicals, using the abundant raw materials found in Malaysia.
The product range will cover both the food and non-food areas. Food ingredients include monoesters of glycerine and propylene glycol, sodium stearoyl lactylate, sorbitan esters and polyglyceryl polyricinolate. Non food products include CDE, betaines and fabric softeners for use in the detergent industry. For the plastic industry, we will manufacture the fatty acid fatty alcohol esters,monoglycerides, specialty fats and fatty acid amides of ethylene diamine and erucic acid.
THE CHALLENGE To have double productivity with Dust and Loss “FREE” in operator safety in concern.
There‘s an increasing demand for powder sodium methylate -modified CDE, especially for the heavily stressed traffic-bearing surfaces of highways and airports. So the task of doubling productivity at MATRIX OLEOCHEM sounded plausible, but not very realistic. Many phases in the process of CDE production are determined by the plant. That made a doubling seem very unlikely without a complete change in the process. Since CDE is still widely produced by batch processing, solving the problem required a high degree of creativity. Keeping 2 units conventional 6-tonne tank at constant temperature and stirring the desired dosage of powder sodium methylate, sodium chloroacetate into the CDE is costly in time and energy. Nor does batch processing allow the powder sodium methylate concentration to be altered later: before any change is made, the batch has to go through the complete mixing and homogenizing process. This made the existing production process extremely inflexible and in urgent need of optimization. It looked at first as though the necessary conditions for producing CDE would preclude shortening production time and thus increasing productivity.
THE SOLUTIONS VT300-10 “Dyna-Flyers” Vertical Inline Homogenizer with Enclosed Sealed Transparent Funnel
The “Dyna-Flyers” powder wetting and dispersing machine is completely different to systems currently found on the market. With this machine, powder materials may be inducted free of dust and losses from a bag, bulk bag or silo directly into the liquid and become wetted and dispersed immediately. The machine works according to the rotor-stator principle. It is not placed inside but outside the main vessel and connected to it by a piping system. The liquid in the tank is circulated in a loop, as it would be with a pump. Because of the special geometry of the rotor, the liquid builds up a vacuum inside the dispersing chamber. Vacuum is used to induct powder into the liquid stream directly from the funnel with heavy-duty hand glove to cut open the powder beg without dust or losses ( SEE PHOTO ON RIGHT). Inside the dispersing chamber, high shear energy is applied to the liquid stream and the surface of the liquid is strongly expanded to accept the powder that is inducted. In the same way, the powder is transported via vacuum and reaches the dispersing chamber expanded as well, and the distance between the particles is increased.

Replacing the laborious batch method is the key to a very flexible production process. “Dyna-Flyers” works as a continuous inline process. It can manufacture up to 24 tonnes of CDE in an hour. The premixing of Sodium Methylate Powder and CDE has been completely done away with. All operations are carried out in closed and safety systems with no more flying powder dust in the factory that scared all worker away. As a result, “Dyna-Flyers” achieves constant mixing qualities. It requires little space and consumes much less energy than the batch method of CDE production. Another plus point of “Dyna-Flyers” is its flexibility. It can manufacture small delivery quantities of CDE in different concentrations without loss of time, which is technically impossible with batch processing. Even a firm that currently produces CDE by batch processing can take the opportunity to integrate “Dyna-Flyers” into its production plant and get the benefit of the continuous mixing process. “Dyna-Flyers” thus revolutionizes the process of manufacturing CDE. It saves time and resources while providing great flexibility during production.
